There are two types of intraocular lenses: standard and “premium” (enhanced) intraocular lenses.
STANDARD:
If you are not a candidate for a multifocal intraocular implant—which would allow you to be free from glasses for both near and distance vision—choosing a monofocal intraocular implant allows you to achieve clear vision without glasses at only one distance (focus): either distance, near, or intermediate distance.
ENHANCED:
If you are not a candidate for a multifocal implant and do not want a conventional monofocal lens because your lifestyle and daily activities require clear vision at distance and intermediate distance without glasses, choosing a higher-quality monofocal intraocular lens provides an enhanced level of sharpness at intermediate distance (for example, viewing the car dashboard or working on a computer).
Reading glasses are still required for near vision.
