There are two types of monofocal intraocular lenses: standard monofocal and enhanced monofocal (Monofocal Plus) lenses.
At hospital Sveti Vid, we use only the highest-quality enhanced monofocal lenses.
Standard Monofocal Lenses
If you are not a suitable candidate for a multifocal intraocular lens—which can provide freedom from glasses for both near and distance vision—a standard monofocal lens may be the right choice.
With a standard monofocal intraocular lens, vision can be optimized without glasses at only one focal distance: far, intermediate, or near. Glasses will still be required for the other distances.
Monofocal Plus (Enhanced Monofocal) Lenses
If you are not a candidate for a multifocal lens but do not wish to choose a conventional monofocal lens because your lifestyle and visual needs require clear vision at both distance and intermediate ranges without glasses, an enhanced monofocal intraocular lens may be an excellent option.
This premium-quality monofocal lens provides an extended range of clear vision, offering improved visual acuity at intermediate distances, such as viewing a car dashboard or working on a computer, while maintaining excellent distance vision.
Reading glasses are still required for close-up tasks such as reading books, newspapers, or small print.
Monofocal Plus vs. EDOF Lenses
The main difference between Monofocal Plus and EDOF (Extended Depth of Focus) lenses is that EDOF lenses provide a continuous range of vision from distance to intermediate without interruptions between focal points, resulting in a smoother visual experience.
